ALICJA BIELAWSKA | THERE ARE NOT FIXED POINTS IN SPACE
25.09 – 01.10.2016
Starter Gallery, Andersa 13, Warsaw
Ceramic surfaces, metal rods wrapped in cloth, planes of fabric hanging, drawings stretched on the walls. Materials and shapes remind us of once held objects. The remembered stories have faded. The fragments remaining require newly drawn connections. Yet this makes them no clearer. Just as the lines connecting the stars are arranged in shapes from which the names of the constellations can hardly be recognized.
While moving around the items in the room, pay attention to your posture. How do you walk? Fast, slowly, or hesitantly? What is your posture while looking at the works? Do you lean, squat, or climb on your toes?
What catches your eye? Is it the interior or the objects? Or maybe other people you see in the room? The objects here interact with one another and also with the interior. When moving between them, you leave behind a line of steps. The objects are reference points, you look for connections between them or focus on individual objects. Maybe in your mind you place them somewhere else, finding them a better place.
In one hundred thousand years the constellations will be different from the ones we know. Maybe someone will see new shapes and give them new names. (Alicja Bielawska)
